2023 Summer Theater Intensive

Playhouse Square is proud to partner with Broadway Dreams for our Summer Theater Intensive, July 16-21, 2023.

Broadway Dreams empowers aspiring young artists through performing arts training, with a focus on the acting, voice and dance disciplines. Intensives are led by an exceptional faculty of respected entertainment professionals who:

   • Assess where all students are in their development process – and where they need to be

   • Teach students practical skills that can be applied immediately to elevate performance levels

   • Guide students to achieve physical, emotional and artistic self-awareness that can be channeled effectively in their work

This intensive introduces students to all aspects of being a theater professional, beginning with vocal auditions and a company-wide dance call that allows our faculty to cast students in a mix of Broadway and popular musical numbers. Throughout the week, and in addition to extensive work on their technical singing, dancing and acting skills, students will also participate in leadership and team building exercises that help prepare them for a life in the performing arts. The intensive will challenge students to push through the limits of their skills and training, and will culminate in a showcase of musical performances written and choreographed by our faculty of elite Broadway professionals. During the week of classes taught by working actors, directors and choreographers, students will prepare for the showcase by participating in strenuous rehearsals and master classes with featured Broadway talents. At the showcase performance on July 21, 2023 at 7 p.m., students will perform with their instructors in front of an audience of friends, family and industry professionals.

The intensive is a 6-day experience from 10am-6pm daily in the Idea Center at Playhouse Square. The registration fee is $545 and includes a boxed lunch. Space is limited, and while there are no age restrictions for registration, prior triple-threat training is strongly encouraged. Registration is a two-step process. First, register here by purchasing a spot. Second, within one week of your purchase, you will receive a link to provide additional information about the participant. Your place is not considered "held" until the form is filled out and submitted. Additional details, including a daily schedule and preparation materials, will be distributed to all participants prior to the start of the intensive.

At the end of the summer, a very small percentage of Cleveland students may be asked to participate in the New York Showcase, a special performance given to Broadway agents, casting directors and theatrical professionals.
